Call for Auditions – That Color Blind Kind of Love

My Creative Spirit Production Company is seeking actors for their upcoming stage play, That Color Blind Kind of Love, by Rebekah L. Pierce. The play is a part of the DC Black Theatre Festival at D.C.’s very own Woolly Mammoth Theatre. Production dates are June 28th and 29th @ 7p with the rehearsal process in Richmond, VA beginning immediately. Pay is TBA. Versatile, experienced actors are sought for the following roles:

Twyla – 30s, African American female; a successful artist/painter, owner of her own art gallery. Has no children, husband, but is close to her mother, Sheba, and best friend, Mary. Has just ended a very difficult and shocking relationship which her mother is determined to repair.

Sampson Bennett – 30s, Caucasian male; a successful dentist with his own practice. He is divorced with no children. Not very close to his family at all, especially his mother, Nell, who controls the family wealth. Has never felt connected to anyone until he meets Twyla.

Sheba – 50s, African American female; Tywla’s overbearing mother who hangs on desperately to the memory of her deceased husband. She is middle-class and rather pretentious; wants her daughter to marry a wealthy African American male; She is prejudiced in her assertions that “blacks should marry their own kind.”

Nell/Sarah – 60s, Caucasian female; Sampson’s very wealthy, snide and racist mother who insists that Sampson “marry up and not down.” She is a repeat character from the 1800s flashbacks (Sarah)

Mary – 30s, African American female; she is Twyla’s best friend who is rambunctious, rather desperate for a man, a romantic at heart and has a special gift; she can see into the past/present. She champion’s for Twyla and Sampson’s love. (already cast)

Judge/Auctioneer – a secondary character; a white male in his 40s-50s

Auditions are Sunday, May 6th from 4:15 – 7:00p (by appointment only) @ Cameo Models (416 E. Main Street, Richmond, VA). Those auditioning need to prepare a 1-2 minute contemporary monologue and to come with headshots and resume. If interested, please email with name and audition time.
