Tight Dress, Killer Heels and a Crack in the Road

Yes, I am finally back. I have been absent for awhile and with good reason: life! Between visits to the emergency room with a violently sick child, a heartfelt request for a separation and an attack of seasonal asthma and allergies, it has been one heck of a roller coaster ride. But I made it through it all not because I am any kind of superwoman with special powers. No, I made it because I kept my focus, faith and a sense of humor.

The first two are self-explanatory, so I will not go into too much of a diatribe with those, but a sense of humor? That’s something to be explored more. I firmly believe that if you cannot laugh at yourself, then life’s gonna be long and hard. Researchers have been saying for quite sometime now that laughter is actually good for the body and mind as it increases blood flow and reduces the risk of heart disease.

So, why is it that we have such a hard time laughing, let alone at ourselves? I think it’s because we think we are “all of that.” Case in point: you have on the “I am too darn hot for you” dress with the killer 5 inch heels. You KNOW you look good, so much so that you actually look forward to walking by that construction site on THIS day. So, you see them – the predators of beauty and sex. You push your shoulders back and breasts out. You pucker those lips and roll your neck. This is gonna be good, you say to yourself.

You know the universe – God – has an awesome sense of humor and HE is always watching you. So, as you are preparing to get your “groove” on, he says to Gabriel, “Yo, Gabriel. Watch this. She thinks she’s all that, but I’ve got something for her.” Then it happens. Remember how your mother would scream almost religiously to “watch where you’re going”?

They are hooting and howling, grinning ferociously at you almost salivating, and you, well you are soaking it in until….you catch your heel on a crack in the sidewalk and nearly fall and break your neck. Legs, hands and hair fly everywhere as those perfectly glossed lips now become smeared.

Now, everyone has seen it, so what do you do? Laugh hard as hell, that’s what you do! That’s what God is doing because for a minute there, you forgot that pride is a sin and the universe had to put you in your place. Ha! But more so, it was FUNNY!

Laugh today – at a silly mistake you made or at something funny. Don’t worry what others think about you because you’re trying to keep that heart pumping and joy flowing. Life may be a challenge for me or you right now, but it’s all good because we have a secret weapon.
